Connections Table

Institute for Emerging Issues

In Raleigh, North Carolina, a public policy “think-and-do tank” called the Institute for Emerging Issues works at improving trends in healthcare, education, environments, and the economy. When IEI moved into a new, landmark building on North Carolina State University's Centennial Campus, they hired Second Story Interactive Studios to create interactive media that educates and provokes action.

We developed the Connections Table, which gives visitors the tools to understand the numbers that tell the state's story: County by county, visitors can see how population compares with household income, violent crime, housing prices, and hundreds of other data sets. The number of possible combinations are staggering, and even more staggering: The beautiful data visualizations are all dynamically generated.
